Instructions for Adoption Service Providers to Apply for and Receive Accreditation Prior to the July 14, 2014 Accreditation Deadline
July 17, 2013
The Council on Accreditation (COA) announced the following guidelines for Adoption Service Providers seeking to meet the July 14, 2014 deadline to become accredited as required by the Universal Accreditation Act. COA will make every effort to assist organizations that:
- apply to COA for accreditation or approval before July 31, 2013; and
- remit the Accreditation Agreement (contract) and fee to COA by August 30, 2013.
On July 14, 2014, the Universal Accreditation Act (UAA) goes into effect, requiring all agencies and persons providing adoption services in Hague Convention and “orphan” cases to be accredited, approved, supervised, or exempted under the Hague accreditation regulations. The Department has designated COA as the accrediting entity to accredit and approve adoption service providers. For more information on the UAA, consult our UAA FAQ page on Adoption.state.gov. If, after consulting the UAA information on our UAA FAQ page, you still have questions, please contact the U.S. Department of State at AdoptionUSCA@state.gov.
For more information on the accreditation and approval process please see COA’s accreditation website or contact the Council on Accreditation at (212) 797-3000.
