The National Passport Information Center can help depending on your travel date, and if you have already applied or not.
You are traveling abroad in 14 days or less
Dial 877-487-2778. You must have an appointment to go to a passport agency or center. We cannot guarantee an appointment will be available.
You are traveling abroad in more than 14 days
Call only if:
- You are changing your mailing address.
- You want expedited service.
- You want 1- to 3-day delivery of your completed passport.
You are traveling abroad in 14 days or less
Make an appointment online to go to a passport agency or center. We cannot guarantee an appointment will be available.
You are traveling abroad in more than 14 days
Make an appointment online if you need a foreign visa within the next 28 days. We cannot guarantee an appointment will be available.
- If you are applying for the first time or for a child, visit an acceptance facility.
- If you are renewing for an adult, mail your form.
Reminders for contacting us
- Representatives are available Mondays through Fridays 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Eastern Time, or on Saturdays and Sundays from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Eastern Time. We close on federal holidays.

- Contact your nearest U.S. embassy or consulate if you are applying outside the United States.
- If you need to cancel an appointment at a passport agency or center, email us at NPIC@state.gov. Do not email us to request a status update or if you have a travel emergency because we cannot share personal information in an email.
